The 5 Dangers of the Common Grocery Cart
June 8th, 2010- Falling Injuries. Shockingly the Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that 21,600 children a year sustain serious injuries related to shopping carts. The combination of a child in an elevated and rolling seating area along with the strong possibility of a parent being distracted by shopping seems to be a recipe for danger. Head and neck injuries along with concussions are some of the common injuries. See the CPSC web site for more information. http://www.cpsc.gov/library/shopcart.html
- THAT’S DISGUSTING! There are more contaminants on the seating area of a shopping cart than on many public restroom floors. Dr. Kelly Reynolds, the microbiologist with the University of Arizona who conducted the most recent study, characterized shopping carts as dirtier than public washrooms. “The fact is, bathrooms are frequently cleaned and disinfected, shopping carts are not!” A baby shopping cart cover can insulate parent and child from contaminated shopping cart surfaces. Disinfectant wipes are not enough. Many contaminants must come into contact with the sanitizer for nearly a full minute before they are eliminated or destroyed. Most people give a quick 5-10 second wipe of the handle and assume they are safe. This is just not the case.
- The not so Safe-ty Belt. The next time you are at the grocery store take a quick look at the shopping cart safety belts. How many are clean, untangled, unbroken and ready to use? The most contaminated area of many shopping carts often is the safety belt. The fabric comes into contact with food, blood, saliva, urine, feces, germs bacteria and viruses. The pits and grooves of the belt fabric harbor many of these contaminants. A quality baby shopping cart cover comes with a tested safety belt that gets regularly washed every time you launder your cover.
- Keep your arms in the vehicle at all times. A moving cart and a reaching child is a formula for broken store items and possible, scratches, bruises or worse. Keeping a child occupied while in the shopping cart is a great strategy for safer and happier babies. A colorful baby shopping cart cover is a great solution to this problem. Toys attached to the fabric and an accessible pocket for the sippy-cup and snacks help keep baby occupied and happy.
- That’s hot mommy! Few adults would ever spend much time in a seat as uncomfortable as the typical shopping cart seat. Cold hard plastic or blazing hot metal are both possible extremes that your child will be exposed to. Getting pinched or scratched on unstable moving surfaces are also a strong possibility. A plush baby shopping cart cover creates pillow-like comfort for baby and maybe a happier shopping experience for mom.
Special note: Properly installed shopping cart covers, along with the use of the safety belt and with adult supervision may greatly reduce the injury and exposure to dangerous contaminants.

How Important Is It To You That Your Baby Is Comfortable?
May 3rd, 2010We all go to great lengths to make sure our baby is comfortable. We dress them appropriately for the weather. We make sure they have cushy blankets, pillows and bedding for nap time.
Then why is it that so few make sure that they purchase and use a baby shopping cart cover every time they go to the store?
Imagine an adult size shopping cart and you get to go for a 45 minute to an hour long trip in the seat. How comfortable would you be?
How does the temperature of that metal and plastic make you feel?
Your legs are dangling off of a hard metal and plastic seat how long before your legs go to sleep?
Would you be having any fun or would you be reaching for anything within grabbing distance?
How long are you going to stay happy in that environment?
Would you be happier longer if you had a nice pillow-like cushy baby shopping cart cover to sit in?
Would you enjoy having your toys handy to keep you occupied?
Would it be nice to have your bottle or sippy-cup handy if you got thirsty?
The Floppy Seat® line of baby shopping cart covers offers your baby all of these great benefits. Why not give your baby every advantage of comfort, health and safety?

Do Shopping Cart Covers Really Keep Children Safe From Germs?
April 19th, 2010To the best of our knowledge there are no credible scientific studies that either confirm or deny the ability of baby shopping cart covers to protect children from germs. The absence of the testing does not mean we cannot draw a wise conclusion from the facts that we do know. By using a little common sense and drawing information from other relevant areas of knowledge we can get some solid answers.
Imagine if there were two shopping carts side by side and both were sprayed with a nasty virus. One cart was bare and the other cart was covered with one of our fashionable, super comfortable baby shopping cart covers. (I know, shameless plug, I just can’t help myself.) For the sake of our thinking process you had to put your child in one of the shopping carts. Which shopping cart would you choose if you wanted to reduce your child’s chance of getting sick? The obvious answer is the cart with the baby shopping cart cover.
Why do most of us think this way? Have we not been told by our health care professionals for decades that an open sore covered with a fabric bandage is less likely to get an infection? Has that not been proven over and over?
May we submit to you that the reason we believe shopping carts with baby shopping cart covers are less likely to pass on illness is because we know it to be true that a barrier to germs, viruses, body fluids etc. is better than no barrier at all?
According to a study conducted by Kelly Reynolds MSPH, Ph.D. Associate Professor at the University of Arizona shopping carts are teaming with lots of undesirables. As many as 54% of carts are contaminated with body fluids. Since we know this it seems clear that we should protect our children.
As always we want to thank all of our Floppy Seat® fans for making our line of baby shopping cart covers a wonderful success.

Do Baby Shopping Cart Covers Really Keep Children Happier While Shopping?
April 13th, 2010The best way to answer this question is to consult the true experts… our happy Floppy Seat® Moms.
One of our smart moms from Birmingham Alabama says this about her baby shopping cart covers, “I love this seat we take it everywhere. It fits all grocery seats and high chairs. This seat is better than all the others because it provides a level of comfort to the baby. It has a thick cushion layer that makes it more enjoyable. You can place sippy cups and bottles inside of the pouch and attach toys. It is easy to carry along and it is not bulky. It also is stylish. I called their customer service one time and found out that their is still a company that believes in their product. I will buy this as a baby gift for all of my friends!”
Another on of our great moms, C. Cross says this about her baby shopping cart covers, “I use it mostly for the distraction for my daughter. The ability to be able to attach her toys to so they cannot throw them is a definite plus.”
Super mom K. Naus said this about her baby shopping cart covers, “I use it not only for germ but for comfort. We went a couple times without it and I could tell my son was so uncomfortable in the hard plastic and metal seat.”
Grampa Dave of Floppy Seat® says, “thank you to all of you in our extended Floppy Family for choosing our line of Baby Shopping Cart Covers. We think they are great too.”

POEM: MAMMA’S WATCHING OVER ME
April 6th, 2010I’m too young to talk much but I want to say,
How much I love you mom, in every way.
I know its hard and I’m demanding as can be,
But I’m so glad my mammas watching over me.
Don’t hit your sister, don’t touch that
Don’t throw your food or lick the cat.
It’s just I want to get into every thing that I do see,
But my mammas watching over me.
Here let me help you, hold my hand,
Hold it this way, NO, DON’T EAT SAND!
Because of you my life is so carefree.
Thanks to mamma watching over me.
Everything looks safe to this little mind,
Every one and thing is safe, good and kind.
I’m so glad your at the top of my family tree.
Thank God my mommas watching over me.
